Yet again, the first 3 movies had more high-octane action sequences. The whole scene where Blofeld tortured Bond then the building exploded, was also fun to watch. It was extremely intense watching Bond get his weaselly butt kicked, and the scene can be quite comedic as well. However, it was funny when Bond landed on the couch! The scene where Dave Bautista and Bond were fighting on the train was the best action sequence.
But until they get on the helicopter, it feels slow-paced. The opening “Day of the Dead” sequence is decent. Once he gets into the story, the plot gets better. He is somewhat terrifying, but it takes him 1 hour and 40 minutes to appear. The villain, Blofeld (played by Christoph Waltz) is decent. However, there is some comic relief from Q (Ben Whishaw).
Also, without M (Judi Dench) and her ongoing comedic rants, the movie doesn’t feel quite as fun. You would think that since Skyfall was an 8 out of 10 (in my opinion), this would at least be a 7. But the most shocking thing is, it was released right after this franchise went to its highest note, which was Skyfall. The storyline is way less memorable than the others.
The action is still good, but doesn’t compare to the opening parkour chase in Casino Royale, or the motorcycle chase in Skyfall. It can be extremely slow-paced at times, especially in the first third of the movie. Spectre is probably the weakest of Daniel Craig’s Bond movies. The movie features kissing, the C word, day of the dead, explosions, sniping, octopie, an assassin who takes out someone's eyes with his nails (not shown), brain drilling (only one small drop of blood), the villain's eye is messed up during an explosion and you can no longer see his pupil, people falling to their deaths, commiting suicide, shooting, being pushed off trains, mentions of the classic Bond martini but they only drink it twice, once at a party, and Q prompts Bond to drink a protein shake, people getting shot, kidnapped, and overall the best James Bond movie if not tied with Skyfall. This movie has great characters, like Madeline Swan, a Bond girl who hates guns and violence despite being the daughter of an assassin, Gareth Mallory, the new M who must find a way to tell the world that technology cannot save lives (M battles political forces in Spectre and Skyfall), and Q, despite being robbed of a 3 million pound car, covers for Bond because they are friends. But now he finds out who is the cause of that, and when he has the chance to end the man who caused his suffering, he puts his gun down. Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, M in Skyfall. In every Daniel Craig movie besides Quantum of Solace, someone very important has been lost. In every single James Bond movie, the main character is a violent, sexy, and alcoholic man who shoots people for a job and doesn't care that he's taking their lives.
